We're Making New Animal Crossing Content, Nintendo Says

ACNH gets weekly fireworks and a related update for now

 

 

The lengthy content drought in Animal Crossing: New Horizons is about to come to an end. In two days, fireworks will return to the popular yet activity-starved Switch game. Later this year, more content will come too, Nintendo said in a tweet, though didn’t offer details about what, exactly, that stuff will look like.

 

“A free update for Animal Crossing: New Horizons arrives on July 29. Please ensure you have updated to the latest version to enjoy the upcoming weekly Fireworks shows and new seasonal items,” Nintendo wrote in a series of tweets. “In addition to these updates, more free content for Animal Crossing: New Horizons is currently in development for later this year. More information will be shared in the future, so please stay tuned. Thank you for your support and patience.”

 

Animal Crossing: New Horizons first came out for the Switch in March 2020, right as millions were confined indoors due to social distancing restrictions spurred by the covid-19 pandemic. A steady drip feed of updates—including patches that added swimming, weddings, those aforementioned fireworks, and an almost offensively simple maze island for May Day—kept players consistently entertained. Whether you love the game or, as I do, deplore it, it’s safe to say that New Horizons meant a whole lot to a whole lot of people during a remarkably trying time.
